DESCRIPTION:

The beaded artwork is in the style of Yoruba beaded sashes, worn by Ifa priestesses as symbols of their spiritual position.  Popular designs on these sashes are faces and animals which are sculptured on the surface.  The designs on the beaded artworks I created for Roche Bobois are inspired by the cut outs of French artist, Matisse.  Meticulous hand stitching of beads is a spiritual process and reminds of the beaded sashes worn by Ifa.
