LITTLE MOMENTS

 

This collection of LITTLE MOMENTS  engages the perspective that the little things are actually big things. I cherish little moments and the humble language of timeworn fabrics; remnants from my mother's fabric stash, a mixture of antique fabrics, and South African shwe shwe off-cuts.

 

Although it is time-consuming to hand stitch and embroider, my small works, measuring 10cm x 10cm, I embrace little moments that bring joy. It is meditative and healing. They are also my shrines to pay tribute to the many amazing women who shared their hand skills and textile knowledge with me.

             

Time is a precious luxury. When every day involves directing and managing a research centre in Limpopo & Cape Town, a craft art studio in Limpopo & a craft art studio/gallery/shop in Cape Town, writing and consulting for international craft & artisanal projects, snippets of time are treasured for creating my textile art.
